After the iOS 18.x carrier settings update my iPhone 13 mini refused to download a travel eSIM. The QR scanned fine, then “eSIM Not Supported” appeared immediately.
What worked, in order:
- Removed the old travel eSIM profile completely, then rebooted.
- Updated carrier settings again with Wi-Fi on and VPN off.
- Turned off “Allow Mobile Data Switching” before scanning.
- Used the manual activation string instead of the QR from the provider dashboard.
Root cause in my case was a stale profile occupying the eSIM slot limit. Worth checking how many profiles you have installed before blaming the plan.
Same here on an iPhone 12. Deleting the old profile was the missing step; I had three installed and never noticed.
